Open Question: UK - My father died 9 years ago, who owns the house and do I have any legal right to claim part/all of it?
My father died 9 years ago with no will. According to the land registry it is Still registered in my fathers/ step mothers name up until January 21st 2005 but there is no details beyond that. There are cautions on the property also, all of which have been paid off exept one and I believe the party involved relating to the last charge is going through the courts to get his money. The house went up for sale but fell through in 2002 and the house as been stood derelict ever since but I would say is still worth in the region of £500′000. I have heard that my stepmother is looking to buy the house, so this must mean she doesn’t own it even though a sale hasn’t gone through.

What rights do I have to put a claim in for the property or how do I find out who will own it given that I have already tried land registry?

I have also been told to get a mobile home on the land and claim squatters rights given that it is my fathers home and it’s been empty for 7 years. Where do I stand in this regard?

Any help would be appreciated……
I am due to see a solicitor tomorrow for further advice.
