Prologue
The Funeral
Claiborne Hanson let tears roll down his face as he thought to himself. I was supposed to go first; I’m not supposed to sit at my wife’s funeral only six years after we eloped! It was true; it had been a slow and great six years until his youngest daughter, Sophie had been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. After Sophie had been sick for a long while, we had begun to think that it was just the flu going around from children in her daycare, but the daycare teacher had notified us that no one in the class had, had the flu or any illness.
Over the next few days things got worse. Sophie sometimes never left her bed or changed clothes all day. So finally (what we should have done the day we noticed her different schedule) we took her too the hospital. That was the second worse day of Claiborne’s life. Multitudes of test and lad work were performed on his five year old daughter. The doctors had made it look as if Sophie was an innocent lad rat that the high school teenagers had experimented on.
Later, the doctor, Dave McAlister, called us into his office. Claiborne had tried to block this horrible day out of his memory, but the only thing that he could remember about Doctor McAlister’s office was the big poster on the wall that read: An apple a day, keeps the doctor away! Oh! I wish we had known that before all this began. Claiborne thought to himself.
Claiborne had worked tremendously hard trying to forget this dreaded moment, but somehow the memory would not fade away no matter how horrible it was. The doctor walked in. Wearing his blue scrubs, sweat trickling down his forehead and wetting his brow.
“I really don’t want to be the one too tell you these but Sophie’s white blood cells are very low.” The doctor had announced.
“What does this mean?” Amanda had asked. Claiborne had remembered the way her golden hair had looked shining in the light and her hazel brown eyes crinkled the way that made her look confused.
“It is a rare case of leukemia. It’s called Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.”
“Oh my goodness!” Amanda had screamed. Claiborne had still remembered it perfectly. After he told us the news he then told us everything we would need to know about APL. Sophie had started Chemotherapy within the next two days.
Now here Claiborne was two months later at his wife’s funeral. Amanda was stressed and freaked out. She had done anything to have a “normal child”. When Claiborne arrived early from work one day he found Sophie lying on the floor coloring in one of her farm animals coloring books.
“Hey sweetie, where’s mommy”
“Oh, hay daddy!” She said, ignoring his question.
“Where’s mommy?”
“She told me to not walk in on her. So I stayed down here and colored! Look daddy it’s a pig!” She said holding up one of her coloring book pages. Sophie scratched her head and long strands of her golden hair slid out between her fingers.
“That’s a lovely picture, darling. Did mommy say anything else?”
“No, when I came down here to color there was a loud boom!” She screamed and motioned with her hands an explosion.
“Oh gosh! No!” Claiborne screamed as he raced up the stairs. He found that the bathroom door was locked. He pounded it opened and lying on the floor was the body of his wife. Lying in her left hand was a gun. Pools of blood spilled onto the bathroom floor. Then Claiborne realized how he too had always wished for Sophie to be healthy.
At Amanda’s visitation Claiborne made sure that the casket was closed so that no one could see the bullet marks in her temples. At the grave side service Sophie stood beside Claiborne holding his hand. He kissed her bald head. As they watched their mother and his wife being put into the ground. Claiborne had wished that he had been home too maybe stop Amanda. Beside him Sophie muttered. “Daddy? Where are they taking mommy?” Claiborne could not hold back his tears any more. The water flowed from his eyes like a river flowing into a lake.
“She’s not going to be around anymore, sweetie. Jesus took her away, to a better place. A much better place.” Claiborne assured his daughter. And with that Claiborne and Sophie walk away, holding hands, and starting their new life.

please i want to add a paragraph the the body, any idea?
introduction: This happened to me last summer. I was sitting at home alone because all of my friends were out of town. I was getting pretty bored so I decided to ride my bike out to a nearby park. When I got there, I saw that no sports teams were having practices and no one was out playing. Finding myself alone, again, I thought it would be neat to go to the river which runs along the street opposite the park.
body: People aren’t supposed to go down there, but kids do it all the time so I climbed down the steep hill and sat on a rock. I closed my eyes and tried to relax a little, when I heard what sounded like someone who is drowning splashing around. Suddenly, I felt these really cold hands grab my ankles and drag me into the river. This river runs fast and I freaked. I swallowed a mouthful of water and everything went black. I forced my eyes open and found myself floating in the center of a circle of bodies. Their skin was all grayish-blue and decaying and I tried to scream, but couldn’t.
I suddenly found myself sitting on the rock next to the river again, almost as if I’d dreamed the whole thing, and then I started coughing up water! I heard a disembodied voice come from out in the middle of the river telling me to leave. I wasn’t about to argue with that and I ran up the hill, across the street, and rode my bike home as fast as I could.
conclusion: Later I found out that the river used to be level with the road, and countless cars fell into the river. At least a dozen deaths were recorded there and I don’t even want to think them, since that time, I do not go there again!
