Resolved Question: WHAT STEPS TO TAKE TO START A DOG RESCUE?
I always have dreamed of opening a dog rescue. I am currently upgrading my high school classes (Chemistry and Biology) so I can go to college to become a Vet Technician. After college, I am going to be looking into buying a house with my fiance. He knows of my dream of a dog rescue and fully supports me with that.
We would buying a house out of town, on an acreage, so space won’t be an issue. We are also going to get a barn, and build dog runs off of it. My fiance is a welder, so our runs are going to be of a good, spacious size and safe. The dogs will spend time in their runs, but I will also be working with them in my home so they get lots of interaction with people and my dogs. I understand what challenges this dream holds, but I am a very dedicated person.
I would be hoping to have 6 rescue dogs at a time in my rescue. I currently own 2 dogs of my own, and have another one joining our family in May. It may seem like a lot to some people, but like I previously said, I am a very determined person. I intend to fufil my dreams.
What steps do I need to take in order to make this dream happen?
Thanks!!

Resolved Question: opinions wanted - writing a will, can’t split estate fairly, what to do?
My husband needs to write a will, but almost all his assets are tied up in one large parcel of land. He has 5 kids, 2 sons, 3 daughters. Only the sons are interested in the property - the daughters have never shown any interest in this land, never camped, hunted or hiked on it in the 35 years he has owned it. One of his sons has been seriously untrustworthy in the past and cut his father out of his life for about 10 years, and has only been friendly the past year or so and is all of a sudden asking about what will happen to the property. well, all the kids are worried, because he had a mild stroke last year. financially, none of the children need help, they all have good jobs and nice homes. I am his second wife and MUCH younger, the same age as his eldest son, and am disabled and without him, am not financially stable (would be low income). (actually, he depends on my income, too, he is asset rich and income poor). We have been together since 2002, and married since 2004. There is not much money besides this acreage, and our home is a dive and needs to be fixed up (not been remodeled since 1950, really, really bad). We drive cars with over 200,000 miles on them, and 1/4 of our income goes to medical bills. So we can’t save money to give to the daughters if he doesn’t leave the land to them, but they have no interest in this land at all so there is no point in doing that, either. His life insurance is only enough for a funeral. The 80 acres means a lot to me, since I hunt and camp there with my husband, and he would like his friends to still be able to hunt there if he dies first. I don’t see a way to guarantee that unless I am left as a co-owner of that land, but I don’t want everybody up in arms if he dies before me and attacking me. I would be sure to leave the land in MY will to his family - I have no children of my own, but he can’t actually stipulate that in his will, what I do with my share of the land if it goes partially to me. I get along with most of his kids most excellently, but who knows? I have bipolar disorder (that’s my disability) and will probably end up in the mental hospital for awhile if he dies before I do.
I really wish we could think of a fair way to do this, but I would resent it if we scraped by even worse than we are to give more money to his daughters, who all have nice homes and new cars and we live like crap. But I love his daughters (well, 2 of them) and these 2 have a fabulous relationship with their dad. Just not the land.
Is there any good solution here? It’s kinda like the family farm situation, when there are no other assets. Wanta make it fair, but how? He’s too old to get affordable insurance (and we can’t afford it anyhow).
He really, really wants the land to stay in the family and not be sold off. So he doesn’t want the land sold off and the money split up.
Oh, and we will see an attorney, but I just wanted to get opinions.
