Open Question: I need help finding a book I read many years ago…I don’t remember the title, but it is a…?
…historical romance…..
This book is set in New Orleans or near there by the Mississippi River. The book begins with a young woman wandering near the humid shore…Somehow I think she may have been running from her father and an arranged marriage. A man or his children find the woman and takes her home with them where they realize she has contracted yellow fever. After being given very little hope of the woman’s recovery the man takes it upon himself to nurse her back to health and I remember the author describing the man soaking the front of his shirt with water he is using to bring the woman’s fever down. Hopefully someone here is familiar with this book and can help me…I am quite desperate to find this book. Thank you.

Open Question: Do you like my story ?
My vision was blurry, my body numb , and all I could remember was the stone cold angel pulling me from the water . Of course I couldn’t really tell considering my body was frozen . Shaking violently , trying to heat it self up , trying to find some way to save my self from becoming a popsicle.

I woke up in a white room, a hospital no doubt . My moms head laid on my frozen hand , I noticed thick blankets were layered on to my shivering body .
“ mom , you awake “ my voice was quiet. It hurt to speak . My moms head sprang up .
“ oh Ember , your awake oh thank goodness” she smiled her pink lips pulling up into a tight smile.
“ mom what happened ?” I looked at her , there were dark purple rings underneath her eyes .
“ well I was hoping you could tell me “
“ all I remember is water , cold water . It kept filing my lungs , I couldn’t breath. “ I remembered the fear I had of never seeing my mother again.
“ oh mom it was the most horrific feeling ever.”
She patted my hand.
“ oh I know sweetie , try and remember more.”
I strained to get past the fogginess that clouded my memory .
“ um, I was walking and I got to cold so I decided to take the short cut home. I didn’t want to have to walk in the deep snow because it would get in my shoes , so I walked across the frozen river . I thought it was solid but I was wrong. I tried to get off the ice when it started cracking. I didn’t realize how far I had walked out , I also didn’t realize how deep the water was.
I tried pulling my self out of the water , but my clothes were to heavy, I began pulling things off but it made me cold . that’s when things started fading in and out.. The water began flowing in as I tried gasping for air. I couldn’t feel my fingers and soon it felt like I was floating and I panicked. I began trying harder to pull my self out but the ice was to thin and it cracked again, and I couldn’t get enough breath to scream for help, so I gave up. I didn’t notice how dark the river was. I thought my time was up and was about to close my eyes as I sunk down to the bottom , letting the last air bubble float to the surface . When something pulled me out , oh let me rephrase that, when a person pulled me out. He looked like an angel , he was practically glowing, he was beautiful , but I blanked out before I could thank him, and that’s it , now if you don’t mind I’m really tired and need some sleep.” mom pulled the blankets up and tucked them under my chin before kissing my forehead and leaving out of the room. I then closed my eyes and fell fast asleep.

I was back in the water again trying to catch my breath .a familiar hand pulled me out of the water only I saw him clearly and I wasn’t cold anymore. I was warm and could feel every joint in my body.

Frightened of what ?
I asked my self , but it’s like he knew what I was thinking.
Frightened of what is too come. Fear is only courage waiting to happen.
The voice was like velvet. Black Velvet. There was an edge to his voice .
What are you talking about ?
I asked with out bothering to open my mouth.
You will see in time. Remember do not fear . You are the chosen one. You are our only hope.
Wait! chosen one for what? I asked again. There was no reply from the velvet voice . Only my fathers hoarse voice waking me up.
“ Ember honey it’s time to go now “ my father helped me out of bed.

Sorry about some of the spelling errors . i am still working on it. The name Ember was just something i slipped in there . it may not be permanent . Please try not to be too harsh this is one of many story’s i am working on.
